SWPL2: Glasgow Girls join Hamilton as table toppers

Glasgow Girls have joined Hamilton on top of the table following a 3-2 win over Jeanfield Swifts on Sunday. The win came on a day Scotland saw a Gambia like whether and the girls put up a strong fight to keep lead leaders, Hamilton on their heels.

Glasgow Girls conceded an early goal when Gk Lauren Grant miscalculated a long ball, rushed off her line only to blast the ball before a pressing striker who blasted the opener.

Glasgow Girls then got back into the game with a well placed finish by Samantha McManus.

Lauren Coleman scored the second that saw her keep her goal scorning form. Jeanfield got back into the game with another goal leaving the game at 2-2.

Manager George Paterson brought on Kirsten Trainer and her speed saw her race down the line into the box and as she turned in the box the defender brought her down for a penalty. Stand in captain and man of the match Megan Logan stepped up and calmly slotted the ball past the Jeanfield goal keeper. Speaking after the match, Manager George Paterson said, “I am very happy with the three points. We had to work ever hard for it today we had a nervous first 10 min and lost a sloppy goals. However after that i thought we looked really good going into half time .

“All credit to Jeanfield. I think they were really well organised and dangerous on the counter attack and pressed really well all day. Our second half was not a good as the first half we went a wee bit too long at times and struggled to get into a good rhythm. “I do not have the biggest squad in the League however the quality in this squad is very good. Bringing on a striker with the pace of Kirsten Trainer changed the game for us. “Megan Logan and Jayne are starting to form a really strong partnership at the back and I was glad for Samantha who has been working so hard for the team and was reward with a well taken goal today. And the goal Lauren Coleman, scored from one of our corners was really pleasing as we have work hard to prefect our set plays at trainings so it is clearly paying off .

The squad ran a lot today and worked extremely hard in the heat. The result was for the players and fans that came to support the team,” George Paterson said.
